How to enable the loading of MRSID files in OpenJUMP 1.3:

# (1) You will need to go to the LizardTech site (http://www.lizardtech.com/download/dl_options.php?page=tools ) and download mrsidgeodecode.exe and mrsidgeoinfo.exe. We are not allowed to redistribute these but they are free from LizardTech. They are needed to read MrSID files.
# (2) on Windows platforms create a ECT folder in the program folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\etc\) and put the 2 files in it.
# (3) Now, rename the files: mrsidgeodecode_win.exe to mrsiddecode.exe and mrsidgeoinfo_Win.exe to mrsidinfo.exe.
# (4) Place the files: mrsidgeodecode.exe and mrsidgeoinfo.exe in the /etc/ folder of OpenJUMP.
# (5) Create also a folder called TMP in the OpenJUMP ETC folder and give it read/write permissions.
# (6) Check now if the option to load Mr SID files is offered in the "Open..." file load dialog.

When you save a task, the MrSID layer info will be saved as well. That is what the SidLayer.java2xml file is used for.

Note, to enable the display of *.ecw files on Windows you need to place the file in the /lib/ directory:
NCSUtil.dll
NCSEcw.dll
NCScnet.dll
The files should be availble from the ER-Mapper website http://www.ermapper.com/ProductView.aspx?t=28
This, unfortunately works only for Windows.
